Bela Gil shares how her father, Gilberto Gil, helped her cope with Preta’s death
The presenter and chef Bela Gil spoke with sensitivity about one of the most delicate periods of his family life: the mourning of his sister, Preta Gildied on July 20, victim of cancer. Commenting on the farewell process, Bela highlighted the fundamental role of her father, Gilberto Gilin the same way that everyone has learned to experience pain. She said the singer’s teachings about respecting the cycles of life were essential to finding some acceptance in the midst of loss.

When we speak directly of the absence of Preta GilBela said her father’s calm attitude helped the family cope with the most difficult times. “I think my father teaches us to respect cycles and the end of cycles”he said. For her, this vision does not eliminate pain, but offers a more conscious way of experiencing it, while respecting each person’s time and form.
The presenter also reflected on how homesickness manifests itself in different ways within the family. “Everyone experiences homesickness in a different way, feels it in a different way”he declared, before emphasizing the importance of emotional sensitivity in Gilberto Gil. “His emotional intelligence soothes us and brings comfort”he added. In a spiritualized tone, Bela revealed that she still felt her sister’s presence in a symbolic way: “I don’t believe in coincidences, so I have a feeling she’s there somehow.”. For her, this feeling transforms absence into a living memory and makes love a permanent bond, even after separation.
