Black Friday retail promotions drove down prices of household appliances and televisions in November, according to data from the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The prices of household appliances and equipment fell by 2.44% in November, while those of television, sound and computers fell by 2.28%. These items are part of the household goods group, down 1%. This is the lowest result for a month of November since the Real plan.
This group represented -0.03 percentage points of the general IPCA rate of 0.18% in November. This means that if household goods prices had remained stable, the IPCA would have increased by 0.21%, not 0.18%.
“Black Friday promotions contributed to November prices,” says Fernando Gonçalves, director of the IPCA.
