The BNG expelled Moraña’s advisor Rubén Fernández Monteagudo after receiving an accusation of gender-based violence. The organization learned of this complaint through a person close to the victim and asked the mayor to also return the report.
As the nationalists said in a statement, the decision was taken during a meeting held on December 15 after learning of this accusation the day before, December 14. The National Executive, which emphasized that it had not received any formal complaint through the internal channel of the organization, agreed to first communicate the suspension of activism and the request for resignation and restitution of its minutes as advisor.
The person accused at the time of the incident “he had no political position or responsibility within the organization”, as explained by the BNG, which also agreed to contact the victim to convey the party’s “total and resounding support” and express its willingness to accept its instructions in the public communication of this matter which, “as far as possible, would be assumed in order to protect his right to privacy and privacy”.
A protocol against gender-based violence
The BNG reaffirms its defense of a “zero tolerance” policy against gender-based violence, “wherever it comes from and whoever the accused”, and encourages any victim of gender-based violence to report “whether the events occurred or not, because no case should go unpunished”.
In the same spirit, he also pointed out that The Bloc has a protocol against sexist violence in force since 2021, by which any activist can file a complaint, and which is accessible to the public on the organization’s website. To date, as BNG reported, this protocol has never been activated.
He further emphasized that It has an information channel open to all, activists or not.where you can file complaints on any topic, including gender-based violence.
