The decision of the US government to lift the sanctions imposed by the Magnitsky Act against the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, his wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, and the minister’s family institute has sparked reactions among Bolsonarista politicians. On social networks, parliamentarians deplored the removal of the magistrate from the sanctions list and evoked feelings such as “betrayal”, “regret” and “humiliation”.

In a statement, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), absent from Brazil since March and in exile in the United States, said he received the news “with regret”. According to him, the “worsening” of the current situation is due to “a lack of internal cohesion and insufficient support for initiatives carried out abroad”.
In the publication, also signed by Bolsonarista Paulo Figueiredo, the MP thanks President Donald Trump for his support “throughout this trajectory” and for the attention given to the “serious crisis of freedoms that is hitting Brazil”. Eduardo Bolsonaro was one of the main supporters of the retaliation.
“We regret that Brazilian society, given the window of opportunity it had, was not able to build the political unity necessary to face its own structural problems. (…) We sincerely hope that the President’s decision will succeed in defending the strategic interests of the Americans, as is his duty. As for us, we will continue to work, with firmness and determination, to find a path that allows the liberation of our country, in the necessary time and despite the unfavorable circumstances. God bless America and have pity on the Brazilian people,” the text says.

Federal MP Nikolas Ferreira said there are people who “pay a high price” for “facing the established tyranny” in Brazil. The Bolsonarista also declared that attributing responsibility for the decision of the American government to parliamentarians and the Brazilian people is an “intellectual fraud”.
For Nikolas, this is a “practical attempt to simplify a complex scenario”, by “unfairly shifting responsibility” to those who have “faced real pressures and risks inside the country”.
The statement comes after U.S. government sources said the advancement of the bill reducing sentences for those convicted of the Jan. 8 attacks and coup plot in the House this week was a deciding factor in the Trump administration removing sanctions against Moraes.
Nikolas also pointed out that “finger pointing” is “beyond unfair,” calling the attitude “perverse.” He said the country needs “lucidity, character and unity”.
“Anyone who follows reality knows that in Brazil there are people who pay a high price to confront the installed tyranny. Pointing the finger at these people is more than unfair: it is perverse. I am witness to the hard work of my parliamentary colleagues in the search for the country’s freedom, against the abuses of the judicial power and the PT government. The country does not need scapegoats or childish stories. It needs lucidity, character and “Dividing the people and those who represent them is the last resort of those who have already lost all commitment to the truth, in this moment, is not a rhetorical option – it is a condition of moral and political survival,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) spoke out against the end of the Magnitsky law sanctions applied to Moraes and his wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes. In
“The National Congress was completely humiliated by its decisions ignored by the STF. And as if that were not enough, Magnitsky sanctions were lifted against Moraes and his wife, the millionaire lawyer from Banco Master,” the MP wrote.
According to Malu Gaspar’s column, Moraes’ wife had a contract with Banco Master which provided that the family office acted in the defense of the interests of the institution and of Daniel Vorcaro, owner of the bank, before the Central Bank, the Federal Revenue Service and the National Congress.

Federal deputy Mauricio Marcon (PL-RS) said that the end of sanctions against Moraes and his wife had “a price to pay by Trump” and that the right “lost the battle”, while the “dictator is stronger than ever”.
In a publication on He added that the road will be “long and painful”, but that giving up “will not be an option”.
“Certainly, Trump’s asking price was not low, and we will soon know whether Lula offered Brazilian rare earths or support for the overthrow of Nicolas Maduro, but that doesn’t matter: the truth is that we lost that battle, and the dictator is stronger than ever. The regime of persecution is consolidated in Brazil and, as at other times in history, it will not be overthrown without the people mobilizing (…). “First” it is up to us, Brazilians of Well, to solve our problems, without counting on anyone’s help. The road will be long and painful, but giving up will never be an option,” he wrote.
