The choice of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) as pre-candidate for president in 2026, made by Jair Bolsonaro (PL), included the order that former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) not object on behalf of her stepson, with whom she publicly argued earlier this week. Michelle was informed of the decision on Thursday during a visit to the Federal Police Superintendency in Brasilia, where Bolsonaro is being held.
A few days earlier, on Tuesday, the former president informed his son of the decision and made a request: to put an end to the family crisis generated by the differences regarding the alliance created for the government of Ceará. All negotiations with Ciro Gomes (PSDB) were suspended and Michelle would receive an official apology, in addition to increasing her powers within the PL national executive.
On Thursday, announcing to Michelle that Flávio would be launched as a pre-candidate, Bolsonaro asked his wife not to oppose what he was doing and not to return to public fights with his children.
At the same time, Bolsonaro sent a warning to the national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, so that the wing of the party closest to the leader, and which had already opposed his decisions, accept Flávio as a candidate. Valdemar told his allies that he would accept the former president’s decision. In publications, Michelle and the leader supported Flávio’s choice and conveyed the message that the party is “united”.
Valdemar published an official note confirming that Flávio is the name indicated by Jair Bolsonaro to represent the party in the presidential dispute. In the note, the president of the PL affirms that the senator personally communicated the decision of the former head of the Executive. “If Bolsonaro said it, it’s said,” he wrote. Michelle shared the post and wished Flávio success.
“May God bless you, Flávio, in this new mission for our beloved Brazil. May the Lord give you wisdom, strength and grace in every step, and may his hand guide your path for the good of our nation,” he said.
The reconciliation between Flávio and Michelle included an apology and moments of crying and prayer between the two. Bolsonaro told his son he would not accept a plot against his wife. Flávio apologized to his mother-in-law and learned that she would not want to be publicly disowned again by Bolsonaro’s children.
Yesterday, the senator said he would begin negotiations for his candidacy for the presidency of the Republic and asked that “all anti-Lula leaders” work to approve amnesty for those convicted of the coup attempt.
“The decision was made yesterday, today I begin negotiations! The first gesture that I ask of all political leaders who say they are anti-Lula is to approve the amnesty this year! I hope not to be radical in asking for amnesty for innocent people. We only have two weeks, let’s unite the right,” he wrote on his profile on X, in reference to the end-of-year vacation of Congress.
In another publication, the senator calls for the release of his father, imprisoned since November 22 in Brasilia. “To free Brazil, we must free Jair Bolsonaro and the innocent people of January 8! Brazil still has a long way to go,” he posted.
Yesterday, Argentine President Javier Milei republished an article about the senator’s pre-candidacy. The reaction of one of the main leaders of the South American far right and ally of the Bolsonaro family was published in a publication by Flávio’s brother, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP). On the social network X, the parliamentarian residing in the United States published an image confirming his brother’s initiative.
Shortly after the announcement, Argentine MP Maria Celeste Ponces also spoke on the networks. With the phrase “God, homeland and family” written on her official profile, she stressed that Flávio is a “consistent heir” to the position and represents “a historic opportunity to return to the path of order, freedom and defense of the family.”
