Former president Jair Bolsonaro confirmed the pre-candidacy of his son Flávio for the presidency of the Republic, in a letter read by the senator this Thursday (25/12).
“Throughout my life I have fought difficult battles, paying a high price, with my health and my family, to defend what I believe is best for our Brazil,” the former president wrote.
Bolsonaro was admitted to DF Star Hospital in Brasilia on Wednesday. He will undergo surgery to repair an inguinal hernia.
“Faced with this scenario of injustice, and with the commitment not to let the popular will be silenced, I took the decision to nominate Flávio Bolsonaro as pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026,” says the text read by the senator.
“I entrust the most important thing in a father’s life: his own son to the mission of saving our Brazil. It is a conscious, legitimate decision and supported by the desire to preserve the representation of those who trusted me.”
The letter read by Flávio says that it “is the continuation of the path of prosperity that I began long before becoming president, because I believe that we must resume the responsibility of leading Brazil with justice, firmness and loyalty to the desires of the Brazilian people.”
In an AtlasIntel survey carried out in November, one of the electoral scenarios projected by the institute showed that in the first round, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) would obtain 47.3% of voting intentions and Flávio would come in second place, with 23.1%, followed by right-wing governors Ronaldo Caiado (10.2%), Ratinho Jr. (7.1%) and Romeu Zema (5%).
The name of Jair Bolsonaro’s son did not appear in the second round projections.
Taking into account the different characteristics of the population, Flávio only beats Lula in the age group of 16 to 24 years (31.3% against 23.6%); and among evangelicals (34.9% versus 27.1%).
In all categories of gender, education level, region of Brazil and family income, Lula is ahead of Flávio.

Throughout my life I have fought difficult battles, paying a high price, with my health and my family, to defend what I believe is best for our Brazil.
Faced with this scenario of injustice and with the commitment not to let the popular will be silenced, I made the decision to nominate Flávio Bolsonaro as pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026.
I deliver the most important thing in a father’s life: his own son to the mission of saving our Brazil. This is a conscious and legitimate decision based on the desire to preserve the representation of those who trusted me.
It is the continuation of the path to prosperity that I began long before becoming president, because I believe that we must resume the responsibility of leading Brazil with justice, firmness and loyalty to the desires of the Brazilian people.
May God bless you and give you the power to lead this chain of millions of Brazilians who honor God, Country, family and freedom.
