Pastor Silas Malafaia said, in a video published this Thursday (10), that former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) accepted the proposal to reduce the sentences of those convicted of the acts of January 8 because there are not enough votes in the Senate to approve a broad amnesty at present.
He says he spoke with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) and he credits them with confirming that this was the ex-president’s direction. “This is what Bolsonaro wanted.”
Malafaia also praises deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), leader of the PL bench in the Chamber of Deputies, whom he describes as a “giant”.
“I want to congratulate the deputy Sóstenes Cavalcanti, leader of the PL, giant, macho, who stood up, stood up, as well as the deputies who approved this. This is the first step”, he declares.
“First the reduction of sentence, then, when the time comes, a general amnesty,” he continues.
At the start of the video, Malafaia compares the current debate to the 1979 amnesty law, approved under the military dictatorship, and accuses the left of having committed more serious episodes than January 8.
“They did worse in 2006, 2014 and 2017, with several police officers in serious condition and protesters injured. They turned a riot into a farce of a coup, a pure political persecution to take Bolsonaro out of the game,” he says.
The pastor calls the convictions linked to January 8 “the greatest political farce in the history of Brazil”.
“It is a shame, an injustice to see Bolsonaro, soldiers and patriots condemned for something they did not do. There was not a police officer injured, nor a demonstrator injured on the 8th,” he declared.
