Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) begins preparations this Wednesday (12/24) for surgery on two inguinal hernias, but does not operate until this Thursday (12/25), Christmas morning. The procedure is expected to begin in the morning, after fasting, and last approximately 4 hours.
Bolsonaro-type hernias occur when part of the intestine or other internal tissue “leaks” through a weakened point in the abdominal muscles, forming a lump or bulge that can cause pain and discomfort.
The procedure involves repositioning tissue that protrudes from the abdominal wall.
In Bolsonaro’s case, the bulge was identified in the groin. The surgical procedure can be performed laparoscopically or with a cut for correction.
