The defender, ex-Glorioso, failed to succeed in the Premier League
The “return of those who were not”? Botafogo are in the running for defender Jair, Flamengo’s target during this European winter international transfer window. The information comes from the newspaper “O Globo”. The intention of Mais Tradicional is to repatriate the young sheriff on loan, the same model that Rubro-Negro covets, but with a purchase option for his main rival. Mengo tried, in this back and forth, Vitão, from Internacional, but he agreed with Cruzeiro.
Jair left Mais Tradicional for Nottingham Forest in July, after the Club World Cup. In England, however, it had little place. He only played two games and was on the field for less than 200 minutes.
Botafogo has since maintained contact with the club. Indeed, during the period when Davide Ancelotti headed the technical commission, Alvinegro had conversations with the club team to explore possibilities and develop scenarios.
Glorioso has a good relationship between John Textor, majority shareholder of the club’s SAF, and Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Forest. The two men did business in 2025. In addition to Jair, Botafogo sent John, Cuiabano and Jesus to England. In exchange, Alvinegro received Danilo, ex-Palmeiras, and Cuiabano on loan.
The SAF’s moment of instability would weigh on Botafogo, with fierce legal battles in court and debts arising from other contracts.
