Botafogo have suffered a transfer ban from FIFA and are prohibited from signing new players in the next three windows. The decision comes due to the non-payment of deadlines for the transfer of Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada in 2024.
Alvinegro will have to pay $21 million (114 million reais) to MLS side Atlanta United, per decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). So far, only two installments of the deal have been paid to the North American team.
For the embargo to fall, Alvinegro must repay his debt to the North American club. Almada was signed by Botafogo in July 2024 and was sold to Atlético Madrid during the European summer window.
