The power outage in São Paulo became the theme of the demonstration on Avenida Paulista this Sunday (14/12). The Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Guilherme Boulos (PSol) took advantage of the act against the National Congress to criticize the behavior of Enel and question Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) and Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).
“As we are today in São Paulo, I cannot help but talk about the hypocrisy of a governor and a mayor. There are people who have been in the spotlight for five days. Here are Ricardo Nunes and Mr. Tarcísio, who want to blame Lula because a privatized company is doing a disservice to São Paulo like Enel? They are the biggest defenders of privatization, who want to destroy the public service, who privatized Sabesp have the morality for that?
Boulos also challenged São Paulo representatives and suggested they help mobilize right-wing seats in Congress to vote on the renationalization of Eletrobras.
This Sunday morning, Greater São Paulo still had nearly 160,000 properties without electricity, five days after the storm that caused a power outage last Wednesday (12/10). Enel’s concession area had more than 2.2 million homes without electricity.
“Shameful amnesty”
On stage, government minister Lula also criticized the approval, in the Chamber of Deputies, of PL Dosimetry, a project which reduces the sentences of people convicted of attempted coup d’état.
“We don’t want to hear about shameless amnesty or shameful amnesty. We want this to stop, because a good crook is a busted crook,” he said.
Boulos added: “It is an act against the amnesty, whether it is open, which they no longer have the strength to approve, or against the shameful amnesty which they unfortunately approved in the House this week. I think it is a message from society, in particular so that the Federal Senate does not make the same mistake as the House.”
Previously, in a conversation with journalists before speaking, the minister highlighted the “very bad measures” recently approved in Congress — in addition to the PL Dosimetry, he cited the PEC of the Marco Temporal de Terras Indígenas approved in the Senate. According to Boulos, the protests across Brazil serve to send a message to parliamentarians.

Asked about a possible veto by Lula on the dosimetry project, he said that the decision was up to the president, but that the PT member was against the amnesty.
The minister also took advantage of the demonstration to highlight what, according to him, will be the main battles of 2026: the re-election of President Lula and the continued imprisonment of Bolsonaro; endorsing the end of the 6×1 scale, taxing billionaires and other workers’ rights issues; and elect the largest left-wing bench to the National Congress.
“Congress, enemy of the people”
Left-wing demonstrators occupy Paulista Avenue, in the central region of São Paulo, this Sunday afternoon (14/12), to protest against the approval, in the Chamber of Deputies, of PL Dosimetry — a project that reduces the sentences of those convicted of attempted coup d’état. Events take place throughout the day in other capitals.
The protests were organized by the Povo Sem Medo and Popular Brazil fronts, in which the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) and the Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) participated.

With the motto “Congress, enemy of the people”, the demonstration is a reaction to the progress of the project which reduces the sentences of those arrested for the acts of January 8. Among the beneficiaries of the text is former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), sentenced to 27 years in prison by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for attempted coup d’état.

The main target of the demonstration is the President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), who decided to lead the PL Dosimetry this week. In addition to criticizing Congress, the protests also focus on other issues, such as ending the 6×1 work schedule and fighting femicide.
