Traditionally, December 26 is entirely dedicated to Premier League matches, with the 10 matches in the round, called Boxing Day. But this year, the tradition was broken. For the first time since its creation in 1871, the day was marked by only one duel: Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle in the round of 16 of the competition.
Boxing Day did not take place this year due to scheduling and contract issues. With the creation of more European leagues, more matches are being played. For this reason, the English federation has chosen to accommodate teams participating in other competitions.

The net only shook once, but Patrick Dorgu’s superb goal was enough for the Red Devils to celebrate. United’s throw-in was long and reached the penalty area. The Newcastle defender seemed to have averted the danger with a high header, but it only served as an assist.
Dorgu received the ball from above and fired a first time into the left corner of the goal, without any chance for the opposing goalkeeper.
