
Brazil broke a new record for foreign tourists in 2025, when more than 9 million people visited the country. This number represents a 40% growth from the 6.7 million travelers recorded in 2024. The total also exceeded forecasts for this year by 30%. The data was published this Monday (12/29) by the Secretariat for Social Communication of the federal government.
In addition to the increase in the number of foreign visitors, revenues generated by international tourism in Brazil have reached unprecedented levels. From January to November, international tourists generated $7.17 billion, an increase of 8.41% compared to the same period in 2024.

The state of São Paulo was the destination that received the largest number of foreign tourists in 2025, with almost 2.5 million arrivals from January to November. In second place is Rio de Janeiro (with 1.9 million). Next come Rio Grande do Sul (1.4 million), Paraná (958 thousand) and Santa Catarina (651 thousand).
Origin of tourists
Argentina was the largest source of tourists. In 11 months, Brazilian destinations recorded the arrival of 3.1 million Argentines, a volume 82.1% higher than that of the same period of 2024. Second place went to Chile, with 21,497 arrivals between January and November 2025. Third place was occupied by the United States (677,888 arrivals), followed by Uruguay (487,514). Paraguay is in fifth place (454,327).
Major events
According to the government’s assessment, tourism in Brazil in 2025 was boosted by major events. In this case, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), held in Belém (PA), in November, falls into the frame. In addition, the BRICS Summit in July in Rio de Janeiro is on the same list, as is Carnival, which generated 12 billion reais in Brazil this year.
