This week, Brazil reached a record number of 9 million foreign tourists visiting the country in 2025, the best figure in the historic series started in 1974, Embratur said on Tuesday.
The result represents growth of around 35% compared to 2024, the year when 6.7 million foreign tourists came to the country.
“Brazil has never exceeded the mark of 7 million international tourists in a year; today we have reached 9 million, which stimulates the creation of jobs and income,” Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur, told Reuters.
“This performance impacts a broad chain of services, from app and taxi drivers to street vendors, including hotel and catering professionals,” he added.
Revenue from foreign tourist spending is also expected to break a record this year and exceed $8 billion from $7.3 billion in 2024.
“With international tourism alone, this year’s revenues will exceed $8 billion. It is important to emphasize that tourism already represents 8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” said Freixo, highlighting the investments made to promote the country’s image.
The outlook for tourist flows is also encouraging for 2026. “Based on Embratur’s forecasts, which take into account the anticipated sale of airline tickets, we estimate an increase of 12% in the first three months of next year. The trend is for continued growth,” said the Embratur president.
