Bulgarian government resigns en bloc after massive protests led by Generation Z against corruption

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Jelyazkov announced in Parliament on Thursday the resignation of his tripartite government led by the conservatives after several mass proteststhe last one yesterday evening, led by the Generation Z and in which tens of thousands of citizens demanded his resignation among corruption charges.

“We have heard the voice of society”, said the Prime Minister, whose government took power in January and was made up of GERB conservativethe Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the populist and anti-IBD system.

Last night’s demonstration, the third organized in recent days by the European opposition party PP-DB, brought together many young people and demanded the resignation of the executive and the calling for new elections, which would be the eighth since 2021.

Among the criticisms leveled at the Zheliazkov government is also its inability to prepare a budget that addresses the deep reforms the country needs. These public accounts are the first to be established in euros, since Bulgaria will adopt the community currency from January 1, 2026.
