
Three people died and four were injured this Monday in a shooting attack on businessman occurred in a residential area of Guadalajara, western Mexico, the Jalisco government reported. The businessman, identified as Alberto alias “El Prieto”, was traveling with his teenage daughter in a high-end sports car when he was attacked by armed men inside a truck.
The businessman’s bodyguards, who were traveling in other vehicles, responded to the attack, leading to a shooting which lasted several minutes, according to testimonies from neighbors collected by local media. “El Prieto” died instantly along with one of his personal guards. The girl and four bodyguards were injured and taken to emergency medical units, the Jalisco prosecutor’s office reported.
The minor died in hospital and the guards remain hospitalized, one of them in serious condition, the agency reported. The prosecution specified that the ‘El Prieto’ is a food merchant and that they are working to verify the identity of the bodyguards as well as to investigate the facts.
The Secretary General of the Government of Jalisco, Salvador Zamora, indicated that he had located two vehicles linked to the attack and that the Secretariat of Public Security of the State, in coordination with federal authorities They are looking for the attackers both by land and air.
The attack occurred less than six months later Guadalajara will be one of the venues for the 2026 World Cup and in the middle of the winter holidays during which a large part of the citizens have days off.
