The city of Buenos Aires, through the Skills for the Future Agency, has officially launched the path to WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the international competition that selects the best young people in more than 65 careers and technical disciplines. It is, in the truest sense of the word, the world of crafts: a global competition in which 1,500 young people from more than 90 countries demonstrate talent, precision and professional excellence.
Argentine students compete in skills that are part of the country’s productive heart but are completely up to date: electrical installations, automotive technology, drywall, pastry, plumbing and heating.
As part of the preparation, the agency equipped more than 30 technical schools and vocational training centers with special tools, materials and equipment to assemble training boxes identical to those used in the world competition. That means: The boys will train with the same standards, the same demands and the same conditions as in Shanghai.
Authoritarians don’t like that
The practice of professional and critical journalism is a mainstay of democracy. That is why it bothers those who believe that they are the owners of the truth.
These are the “old professions”, which, however, work with innovation, technology, precision and high-quality training, tailored to today’s requirements of the working world.
Gustavo Álvarez, director of the Skills for the Future agency, emphasized the importance of the challenge: “2026 will be the year of intensive preparation. We will train our students to become true athletes with technical skills. The city will hold its own pre-Olympics and then the final Olympics, which will determine who can reach the World Championships in Shanghai.”
The 2026 World Skills Championship in Shanghai will officially begin on September 22nd next year with the opening ceremony, while competitions will take place from the 23rd to 26th of the same month. The graduation ceremony will take place on the 27th.
“Joining the WorldSkills movement modernizes technical-vocational training, strengthens vocational training and opens real employment opportunities for thousands of young people. It is a concrete way to build a city with more opportunities, more talent and more future,” added Álvarez.
Every two years, WorldSkills brings together more than 1,500 young people from around the world in a competition that requires precision, technique, creativity and excellence. Buenos Aires is now entering this global map and taking a historic step to position its talent worldwide.
