The Cambodian government denounced on Saturday (12/13/2025) that Thailand continues to bomb its territory, hours after US President Donald Trump announced that these two Southeast Asian countries had agreed to a ceasefire in their border conflicts.
Recent clashes between these neighbors have left around twenty dead on both sides and the displacement of half a million people. They have their origins in a long dispute over the demarcation of their 800 km long border, which was established in colonial times.
Each side blamed the other for reigniting the conflict.
“On December 13, 2025, the Thai army used two F-16 fighter jets to drop seven bombs on several targets,” the Cambodian Ministry of Defense reported this Saturday on the social network X.
“Thai military aircraft have not yet stopped bombing,” he added.
Seven days of fighting
The accusation came hours after Trump announced Friday that the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to end the deadly clashes after speaking by phone with both leaders.
“I had a very good conversation this morning with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, about the very unfortunate resurgence of their long war,” the Republican said on his Truth Social platform.
“They have agreed to stop all shooting starting this evening and return to the original peace agreement that was made with me and with them with the help of the great Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim,” he added, referring to a pact made in July.
The fighting entered its seventh day this Saturday, two more than in July, when an episode of violence left 43 people dead and around 300,000 people forced to evacuate.
The United States, China and Malaysia then brokered a ceasefire and in October Trump endorsed a joint declaration of a peace agreement.
Thailand suspended the agreement the following month after several of its soldiers were injured by landmines on the border.
