What was supposed to be just a traditional nativity scene set up at Praça Matriz, in Barra de Minas (MG), became the scene of an unexpected visit – and it wasn’t from the Three Kings. Just before Christmas, three caramel dogs decided to explore the scene representing Mary, Joseph and a still-empty manger, and they ended up starring in a scene that quickly took the networks by storm.

The photos were taken by Brendo Silva during a family outing in the city centre. He said it all started when his grandmother stopped to observe the nativity scene set up by City Hall. At that moment the dogs appeared and began interacting with the decorations without ceremony.

“Someone was pulling the bag where the baby Jesus was lying,” Brendo recalls. “Suddenly, he decided to drink water and climbed onto the coconut straw in the decoration.” In the video, which he narrated in a humorous tone, the influencer made comments such as: “Meanwhile, in the nativity scene in my city… (…) he started throwing the saint to the ground. Are you praying?”
The three canines lay down near the images of the cave, pulled the cloth covering the manger, and took advantage of the artificial lake to quench their thirst. The scene ended quickly on many profiles and many users commented on the situation with humor.
“It’s part of the decoration, it’s a living nativity scene”, “He runs after a motorcycle all day, and at night he seeks forgiveness” and “Always caramel” were some of the comments.
Christmas caramel
The scene resulted in another story. The Caramels do not have a guardian, but they live under the care of Matheus Vieira, a resident known for working for years on the animal issue in the city. It also welcomes several dogs from the area, including the heroes of the video.

He told G1: “I take care of not only the ones in the video, but about 15 dogs. My wife and I leave work, take the car and go looking for them on the streets. We vaccinate them, deworm them, feed them. Unfortunately, we are unable to adopt them and we cannot find anyone who will. That’s why our care is like this. We are doing everything we can.”
The boy was particularly affected when he saw the repercussions of the images. “I am so touched and happy for them. This Caramel has a talent for bringing a smile to everyone who crosses her path.”
In the end, the grotto scene that symbolized simplicity, faith and renewal ended up having a literal interpretation: it became a temporary shelter and resting point for three visitors who, unwittingly, perfectly translated the welcoming spirit of Christmas.
