Carlos Bolsonaro is expected to leave the city council next Tuesday | Policy

According to Carlos’ allies Valuethe councilor chose the date because it was the last plenary session of the Chamber before the end of the legislative year. That day, municipal parliamentarians will carry out the final vote on the annual finance law (LOA).

After resigning from the seat he held for nearly 25 years, Carlos is expected to move to Santa Catarina. However, the councilor has not yet decided in which city he will live next year.

According to election law, candidates for office must have an electoral domicile in the city or state in which they will seek office until six months before the election. Therefore, Carlos must be registered in Santa Catarina by April next year.

The councilor has not yet officially communicated to the party leadership the change of electoral address, but, according to close sources, this will happen soon. This announcement is more of a bureaucratic matter than a consultative one – that is, Carlos’ move to Santa Catarina is already certain.

The person who will sit in the Rio Chamber is Bolsonaro supporter Alana Passos (PL), who served as a state deputy between 2019 and 2023. The former Rio de Janeiro parliamentarian and future councilor has already circulated within the Municipal Parliament.

“I’m waiting for Carlos’ decision. We’re going through a sensitive moment, especially him, because of what his father is going through. So I’m waiting,” Alana said. Valuereferring to Bolsonaro’s arrest.

“May the will of God and his (Carlos) be done. I will assume (the mandate) at the appropriate time,” he concluded.

According to sources in the Rio Parliament, Carlos and Alana have created a sort of “transition office”, and the former MP has visited the Chamber frequently in recent weeks. She specifies, however, that her visits are solely intended to discover the world of the House.
