British King Charles III announced this Friday in a televised message that his cancer treatment program can be “reduced” next year.
“Today I can share the good news that, through early diagnosis, effective intervention and compliance with doctors’ orders, my cancer treatment program can be “scaled back” in the new year,” the monarch said.
In this unusual television appearance on the British channel Channel 4, Charles III shared his personal experience with the disease and assured that this “stage” is, at the same time, “a personal blessing and a testament to the remarkable progress that has taken place in cancer research in recent years. »
Sources close to the monarch affirm that Charles III will continue his treatment against cancer – the typology of which remains unknown – but given his positive progresswill now begin a preventive phase and reduce its frequency.
“Early diagnosis“It simply saves lives,” emphasized the King of the United Kingdom, who shared, from his own experience, how the news of the disease can be “overwhelming”, but if it is detected in time, it is the “key” to transform processes, giving countless time to medical teams and hope to patients.
“During my own journey with cancer, I have been deeply moved by what I can only call the “community of care” that surrounds every cancer patient, the specialists, nurses, researchers and volunteers who work tirelessly to save and improve lives,” added Carlos III.
A call for early detection
In this sense, the monarch said that during the treatment he also learned something that worried him. “deeply”: that more than nine million people in the UK are unaware of available cancer screening tests.
“These are, at least, nine million opportunities early diagnoses that are missed,” he said.
Carlos III said he was often told that people avoided taking these exams because they imagined they were “scary, embarrassing or uncomfortable.”
According to him, “a few moments of minor discomfort are the smallest price to pay for the certainty that comes to most people later, when they are told that or they don’t need more proof or they are offered the opportunity to detect the disease at an early stage, thanks to an operation that can save their life.
“This December, as we come together to reflect on the year we have had, I pray that as part of our New Year’s resolutions we will all ask to help support the early detection of cancer. Your life, or the life of someone you love, we can depend on it“, concluded the monarch.
Charles III’s televised message, recorded on November 27 at his residence at Clarence House, is part of the campaign Stand up against cancer (Facing Cancer), launched jointly earlier this month by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 and coincides with the UK launch of an online consultation tool on disease controls.
The British king announced in February 2023 his diagnosis of cancer, detected after undergoing a prostate enlargement procedurewhich forced him to interrupt his public schedule for a few months to undergo treatment, although he currently combines it relatively normally with his official commitments.
