The first vice president of the Government of Castile-La Mancha, José Luis Martínez Guijarro, reiterated the support from the Regional Executive for farmers’ demonstrations in Brussels At the same time, the region asks the European Commission not to finance … their new priorities, in terms of defense and security, at the expense of the countryside.
Martínez Guijarro, who participated in the signing of more than thirty projects financed with LEADER funds for the region of El Záncara, in Cuenca, insisted that the proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework (PMF) 2028-2034 of the European Union, presented by the European Commission This involves a reduction in the CAP and the disappearance of funds such as the EAFRD, leaving farmers as the biggest victims. as well as the Rural Development Groups, both essential for the rural environment of the Autonomous Community.
Concretely, he said, “it cannot be possible that the countryside, the farmers, end up paying for other financial needs or priorities of the European Union” and he asked that these new defense and security costs be covered by a greater financial contribution from member states.
At this stage, he also mentioned the fact that the 2028-2034 European budget proposal integrates the cohesion funds into a new “macro-fund”, called “Economic, social and territorial cohesion, agriculture, rural and maritime prosperity and security”, which will be managed by national governments.
This nationalization of funds does not guarantee that a response will be provided to the needs of the territories as has been done until now. For this reason, he said, the approach of Castilla-La Mancha is that the cohesion funds can be managed by the autonomous communities to meet the specific needs of each territory.
