Catalonia activates heavy rain alert and calls for extreme precautions in three regions of Tarragona

The emergency number 112 has received more than a hundred rain-related calls so far. None of them are due to serious incidents, as specified by Civil Protection. For their part, firefighters responded to 39 calls, the majority in Tarragona.

As reported by Catalan Water Agency (ACA), the current weather situation may affect the river network with sudden increases in the water level of rivers, streams and other watercourses in the regions affected by the observation notice. Furthermore, the Hydrographic Confederation of the Ebro (CHE), has issued a warning regarding the possibility of flash flooding of streams and torrents, which could be significant locally.

The Civil Protection Operational Coordination and Emergency Center (Cecat) sent the notice to all municipalities and is coordinating all information on the situation. The technical committee of the Inuncat plan maintains coordination with the municipalities that have made flood zone closuresand with the firefighters, who monitor risk areas, in collaboration with the emergency services.
