
The Secretary of Public Health of the Generalitat, Esteve Fernández, explained that the government is working to extend the mask obligation for another 15 days in hospitals and residences due to flu rates in Catalonia.
In an interview on Rac1, Fernández emphasized that the the epidemiological situation remains highalthough this week cases have stabilized and could have peaked earlier than expected.
He indicated that there is currently 382 cases of influenza per 100,000 inhabitants and that infections have been decreasing for four days, even if a rebound cannot be ruled out. He also clarified that the emergencies are under pressure, but not collapsingand that the pressure aid decreased slightly compared to that recorded after the Purísima Bridge.
Fernández emphasized that the the flu is no longer virulentbut reaches more peopleand stressed the importance of vaccination to avoid serious infections.
In this sense, he emphasized that this year there was vaccinated 110,000 additional people than the previous one, until reaching 1.3 million people vaccinated in Catalonia.
