On the last day of the Brazilian Championship, Ceará hosted Palmeiras at the Arena Castelão this Sunday (7/12). Vozão took the lead, but saw Verdão turn things around and win 3 x 1. As a result, the club was relegated to Serie B. After the match, team president João Paulo Silva fell ill and was replaced at the press conference.
At a press conference after the relegation, Ernando Uchôa, Ceará’s vice president and director of football, and Haroldo Martins, the team’s general director of football, commented on the matter.
“First of all, I would like to say that President João Paulo was feeling unwell, that he was being treated by our doctors and that he was not in a condition to come to this interview. I repeat, the feeling of all of us is deep dismay. We apologize to our fans,” commented Uchôa.
