Centrão leaders underline, behind the scenes, that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) made a crucial error by announcing his pre-candidacy for the presidency of the Republic in 2026.
According to the group’s party leaders, Jair Bolsonaro’s son “01” should have discussed his candidacy with allied acronyms, like União Brasil and PP, before announcing it.

Flávio, Centrão members explain, reversed the order: he first publicly announced that he had his father’s blessing to be a candidate and only then looked for acronyms to present his name.
The result was not the best. On Monday (12/8), Flávio met with the presidents of the Centrão parties, but none of them have yet wanted to support his name at the Palácio do Planalto.

Bet on the ceiling
Behind the scenes, Centrão leaders downplay Flávio’s growth in the latest polls of voting intentions, which show that the senator obtains better results in the second round against Lula than other names.
The group’s assessment is that it was already expected that, with the surname “Bolsonaro”, Flávio would grow quickly and conquer his father’s electorate. The problem, they emphasize, would be a possible “ceiling” for the senator in the presidential race.
In this context, the leaders of the Centrão affirm that it is necessary to wait for other names to present themselves as presidential candidates. Among them, the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União).
In this scenario, one wing of the bloc understands that the best path would be to prioritize the election of solid seats in Congress, in 2026, to maintain the strength of the Centrão, regardless of the elected president.
