Lucas Alario was instrumental in Estudiantes’ honor in the Champions Trophy. With two goals in the final against Platense, the striker paved the way to the title and cemented his importance in the squad, although he still has one year left on his contract. In any case, his continuity does not seem assured and the transfer market could mark a turning point.
The consecration in San Nicolás allowed him to end the year with a different picture after a complex season from a footballing point of view. In all of 2025, the attacker only scored three goals and was one of the players most questioned about his performance. During the Clausura he also lost importance in the coaching staff’s consideration and slipped away.
In this context, the possibility of an early departure was examined at the time. However, the decisive appearance in the final changed the scenario. The club believes he can fulfill his contract and become a real alternative in attack, especially given the demanding schedule the team faces in 2026 and several competitions on the horizon.
Nevertheless, the footballer himself is analyzing his future with caution. The intention to provide more continuity could lead him to consider proposals from both abroad and within Argentine football. Sequel to Estudiantes is a concrete option, but not the only one on the table.
During the season Alario played 29 games and scored three goals. Before the double against Platense, he had only scored one penalty against Banfield and was in a goal drought lasting more than ten months.
Should the striker finally decide to leave, the management will look for an alternative in the transfer market, beyond Guido Carrillo retaining his place as the undisputed starter in attack.
The offensive panorama is not limited to Alario’s situation. Other names in the squad have also attracted interest abroad and could receive offers in the coming days. Among them are Edwuin Cetré and Tiago Palacios, important figures in the team structure and protagonists of an outstanding season.
