The Chinese military “uses destroyers, frigates, fighters, bombers and drones” in Monday’s maneuvers, which include “live-fire training against maritime targets in northern and southwest Taiwan,” according to a statement from the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Eastern Theater Command.
Taiwan confirmed that it had detected four Chinese coast guard vessels near its waters.
In an earlier statement, Chinese military spokesperson Colonel Shi Yi revealed that “starting from December 29, the Eastern Theater Command of the PLA (People’s Liberation Army) will mobilize troops from the army, navy, air force and rocket force to conduct joint military exercises called “Mission Justice 2025.”
This large-scale mobilization comes after weeks of tensions between China and Japan, triggered by comments suggesting potential Japanese support for Taiwan in the event of future armed conflict.
