Christmas Thursday (12/25) will be extremely hot for parts of the country. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the states of the southeastern region of Brazil, in addition to Goiás, the Federal District, Paraná and Santa Catarina, are threatened with a potential danger of heatwave, that is, they could record up to 5ºC above average for two or three days.
The maximum is 40°C in the capital Rio de Janeiro, 34°C in São Paulo and 32°C in Belo Horizonte (MG). There is no rain forecast for the region.
São Paulo could reach 36°C this Thursday. If this happens, it will be the highest temperature recorded on a December day since 1963.

Even with the high temperatures, in the South the rain persists with the passage of a cold front which is heading towards the ocean. Rainfall of up to 100 mm/day is expected, with intense winds of 100 km/h and a risk of hail. The weather remains muggy in the region, which is also under a storm warning. Thermometers indicate 33°C in Florianópolis (SC) and Curitiba (PR).
Humidity and heat favor showers in the northern and central-western regions. States like Amazonas, Acre, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul will experience accumulations of up to 50 mm/day, with an Inmet warning for intense rain. The maximum is 30°C for Manaus (AM) and 31°C for Rio Branco (AC). Thermometers also indicate 35°C in Cuiabá (MT) and Campo Grande (MS).
In the Northeast, instability and heat also persist. In this region, the climate is affected by an intertropical convergence zone which favors the formation of deep clouds. There is a possibility of rain showers in the states of Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia. The maximum is 31°C in Maceió (AL) and Salvador (BA), and 30°C in Aracaju (SE).
