The presence of a warm and humid air mass continues to act with high intensity on the southeastern region of Brazil, guaranteeing sunny days, with temperatures well above average in the afternoon over the capital São Paulo and neighboring cities in the metropolitan region.
Thus, the forecast for this Thursday (25) of Christmas is a scenario similar to that of recent days, with heat above 33°C in Greater São Paulo. On Monday (22) and Tuesday (23), the maximum reached 33.6°C at 4 p.m. at the Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) station in Mirante de Santana, north of the capital, where the city’s official measurements are taken.
This Wednesday (24), the maximum rose to 34.6°C in the same place and at the same time.
On this Christmas Day, however, some meteorological institutes are warning of the possibility that thermometers will exceed the historic record for the month of December in the capital São Paulo: 35.6°C, recorded on December 3, 1998.
The highest temperature of the year in the city was 35.1°C on October 6, a measurement which could well be exceeded this Thursday.
The CGE (Climate Emergency Management Center) of the City of São Paulo highlights that the early mornings continue to be hot, including the weekend, which will be marked by isolated rain showers in the afternoon.
The CGE predicts that the day will be marked by a few clouds and thermometers averaging around 23°C in the morning. As the hours pass, the sun will shine brightly, ensuring a rapid rise in temperature, which should once again exceed 34°C and cause minimum air humidity values of around 33%.
“With the strong warming and infiltration of the sea breeze in the late afternoon, there is a significant probability of the appearance of isolated showers of rapid rain between mid-afternoon and early evening over the capital and neighboring cities of Greater São Paulo,” indicates the CGE.
State Civil Defense also warns that several regions of São Paulo are expected to record temperatures at least 5°C above average for this time of year, in addition to very humid mornings and mornings.
Along the entire coast of the state, temperatures are also expected to exceed 35°C, and in the rest of the regions they are expected to vary between 32°C and 38°C. However, in all these countries isolated rain showers are forecast in the afternoon.
For Friday (26), this panorama should not change. The CGE predicts that the day should start with temperatures around 24°C at the start of the morning and a sunny dawn between a few clouds. The maximum easily reaches 34°C, with minimum air humidity levels above 35%. Between mid and late afternoon, rain may return in the form of isolated showers, of short duration, but sometimes even with strong intensity.
