Fireworks launched during a parade organized by the city of Estação (RS) on Sunday night (30) left 11 people with abrasions and minor burns.
Pictures circulated on social media show that the artifacts exploded toward the public. The city has a population of about 5,500 people, and the fireworks were part of the opening display of the Christmas program at City Hall.
The Getulio Vargas Military Fire Department, which responded to the incident, said Bound Noting that “no application or permit to use fireworks on site has been registered.” The civil police will investigate the case.
The reporter contacted the city council by phone on Monday (the first), but received no response. The municipality said on a social media site that it “regrets the incident of using fireworks, which unfortunately led to injuries” among citizens, and they were treated quickly.
Mayor Jefferson Zimmerman (PSDB) also recorded a video of the incident. “I want to assure you that as of yesterday (Sunday), (the injured) have already gone home. No one has been admitted to hospitals. I want to apologize to all the residents who were watching the Christmas opening,” he said.
He also stated that the program is ongoing and asked residents to continue attending the events.
According to firefighters, in addition to the injured, a fire was also recorded in vegetation near a house and damage to a parked vehicle.
