The new cycle-pedestrian bridge between Ciudad Real and Miguelturra was inaugurated this Monday, putting an end to a historic request from the two municipalities and allow secure travel on foot and by bike between the two sites, thanks to a investment of 7.5 … million euros.
The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page; the second vice-president of the Council, José Manuel Caballero; The Minister of Development, Nacho Hernando, and the mayors of Ciudad Real and Miguelturra, respectively Francisco Cañizares and Luis Ramón Mohíno, were responsible for inaugurating the new infrastructure this Monday.
The infrastructure will allow you to cover the distance between Miguelturra and the center of Ciudad Real in just 15 minutes, significantly improving the safety and accessibility of daily travel compared to the alternatives that existed until now, such as road connections or roads without adequate conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.
The footbridge, designed by civil engineer Ramón Sánchez de León, It is a suspended metal structure 153 meters long and five meters wide which spans the A-43 motorway. without intermediate supports and has two differentiated lanes, one for pedestrians and the other for cyclists.
In addition, it has access ramps with a maximum inclination of 6%, which guarantees its use by people with reduced mobility.
The project was financed by Next Generation funds through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Planwith a total investment of 7.5 million euros, and was designed as a strategic action within the framework of the Ciudad Real 2025 Modernization Plan, aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and improving the infrastructure of the capital and its surroundings.
A symbolic work
The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, defended during his speech that the work was the result of work, planning and institutional collaboration, highlighting its symbolic meaning as an element of cohesion between Ciudad Real and Miguelturra.
García-Page highlighted that the Government of Castile-La Mancha has respected the commitments made with the province and insisted on the importance of maintaining projects with a vision of the future that continue to improve the quality of life of citizens.
For his part, the second vice president of the regional government, José Manuel Caballero, described this day as a “happy day” for both cities and highlighted the collective effort that made it possible to realize a performance that was once questioned and “sold like smoke”.
Caballero stressed that the gateway represents a people-centered policy, facilitating safe travel and promoting coexistence and relations between neighboring municipalities.
For his part, the mayor of Ciudad Real, Francisco Cañizares, thanked the definitive boost to a project blocked for years and stressed that the new connection will allow to continue strengthening the ties between Ciudad Real and Miguelturra, strengthening the role of the capital and its area of influence through better communications.
Finally, the Mayor of Miguelturra, Luis Ramón Mohíno, celebrated the completion of a long-awaited infrastructure that brings agility and security to the many daily trips between the two municipalities.
Likewise, he highlighted the symbolic value of the footbridge as an icon of Campo de Calatrava and as an example of collaboration between localities that move forward together towards the future.
