The Civil Guard arrested former socialist activist Leire Díez this Wednesday, as sources from the Armed Institute confirmed to elDiario.es. A court of the National Court is leading an investigation against Díez which is taking place under procedural secrecy and which is promoted by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
The arrests were carried out by agents of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard as part of an operation that is still open. Alongside Leire Díez, the former president of the Spanish Company of Industrial Participations (SEPI) Vicente Fernández was arrested. Both are accused of fraud, falsification of documents, embezzlement, influence peddling and prevarication. Further arrests are planned.
On the other hand, Leire Díez was already under investigation in a Madrid court for corruption and influence peddling due to alleged maneuvers against the public prosecutor’s office or senior officers of the Civil Guard with whom, according to the judge, she intended to harm judicial investigations.
