Civil Protection has sent an Es-Alert message to cell phones in the city of Badalona and different municipalities in the regions of Vallès Oriental and Occidental, Maresme and Barcelona due to the torrential rains over the next two hours. Emergency services advise citizens to exercise caution.
This organization indicated that the rain front that has been affecting Catalonia since Friday evening has once again entrenched itself in the municipality of Badalona and in those of Canovelles, Granollers, Parets del Vallès, Montmeló, Montornés and Martorelles, where the Es-Alert was sent.
In the message in question, it is asked to avoid travel and outdoor activities, not to approach rivers, streams or ravines, nor to cross flooded passages or passages with water. Citizens are also asked to avoid going down to basements, going up to upper floors and letting water enter buildings, and to call 112 in case of emergency.
The message was also sent to cell phones located in the municipalities of Sant Fost de Campsentelles, Montcada i Reixach, Tiana, Montgat and Santa Coloma de Gramenet, thus completing a total of 13 municipalities affected. Civil Protection also reports that the rains could also affect neighboring towns.
The warning reminds that the worst will happen in the next two hours and that some incidents have already occurred in these areas. According to the Catalan agency ACN, firefighters have already received eight alerts in the city of Badalona due to water leaks and basement flooding.
The most notable precipitation records have already exceeded 50 or 60 liters of rain in several towns such as Sant Fost-Mas Llombart (66.8 liters), Mollet-estació de França (62.6 liters), Badalona-Museu (56.4 liters) and Badalona-Progrés (53.8 liters), according to data offered by the automatic stations of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC) and Meteoclimatic.
Catalonia has activated the Inuncat plan since this Friday due to the forecast of heavy rains during the weekend.
