Claudio Castro avoids the vote in Allerg on Basilar imprisonment: “I am not a representative” | policy

Governor of Rio de Janeiro State, Claudio Castro (PL), this Friday (5) evaded questions about the arrest of the President of the Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerg), Rodrigo Basilar (unit). When reporters asked him about the vote scheduled to take place this afternoon in the Allerg Constitution and Justice Committee, he said: “I’m not an MP. You’ll have to ask the MPs.”

Basilar has been in prison since Wednesday, on suspicion of informing former State Representative Tigo Santos of the matter. Jewels wthat there will be an operation to arrest him, next September, on charges of his involvement with Red driving. The Allerg High Court will vote this afternoon on whether to abolish or maintain the prison.

The Governor was asked about Basilar’s situation upon his arrival to attend the second day of the South-East Integration Federation meeting (Kosod). So far, Castro has only spoken publicly through a memorandum issued yesterday, more than 24 hours after the arrest of the Allerg president.

He told reporters today that his position is “exactly” what was stated in the text. “Just read what’s out there,” he said, without any new comments. In the memorandum issued yesterday, the Rio governor stated that he was following the facts with “due institutional attention.”

After the analysis at the International Court of Justice, on Monday (8), the plenary session in Allerg will decide on the arrest of Basilar. 36 out of 70 deputies from Rio de Janeiro are needed to cancel or maintain the detention.

Castro and Basilar were allies in the past, and the governor even indicated that the Allerg president would be his candidate to succeed Guanabara Palace in the 2026 elections.

The two separated in July, when Basilar took over as interim prime minister and fired the then transport minister. Washington Res (MDB) without obtaining prior approval from Castro. This incident was the culmination of a series of harsh criticism exchanged between the MP and the governor.
