As the end of the year approaches, beauty productions begin to gain importance in party planning. The period, marked by meetings, outdoor celebrations and high temperatures, brings challenges and possibilities for those looking for makeup capable of getting through long nights without losing its freshness. In this scenario, makeup artist Yumi Misuqui, partner makeup artist at Lord Perfumaria, observes a movement that combines the elegance of cool tones with the recurring desire for shine, but in a more strategic and sophisticated way.
According to her, despite the strong current appeal of opaque skin and cool pink blushes, there are specific behaviors that are repeated on the eve of New Year’s Eve. The search for light remains alive, albeit in a more controlled way.
“On New Year’s Eve, customers like to add a little more shine, but I’ve seen a significant increase in demand for cool tones in blushes, highlighters and eyeshadows.” The result, explains the makeup artist, is a look that conveys modernity without losing the festive vibe.
Makeup durability
At this time of year, maintaining a beautiful finish all night long becomes as important as choosing the ideal color palette. The festive routine, combined with high temperatures, calls for more careful skin preparation. Yumi emphasizes that sustainability begins well before the foundation. “Perfect hydration is the key point for makeup to stay intact,” he explains.
Then, the professional reinforces an element that is often underestimated, but which makes all the difference in terms of heat resistance: loose powder. “Many avoid powder for fear of marking the skin, but it is essential for sealing and setting, and there are several options today that don’t break out.” Sealing makeup, she says, ensures the stability of the skin’s structure and helps prevent excessive shine and marks on fine lines, common effects in hot environments.
Smoky eyes and highlighted lips
Consumer behavior also reveals clues about trends. For the eyes, Yumi highlights that the classic smokey look has been reinterpreted lighter, with a clean and elegant finish. “The smokey look close to the upper and lower lashes gives the eyelid a cleaner, more modern look.”
On the lips, she observes an interesting division between shine and tradition. Gloss is essential during evenings to enhance volume and bring liveliness to the face, while lipstick retains its absolute dominance at Christmas, reinforcing the symbolic aspect of color at this time of year. “Glossy makes your mouth more eye-catching, but at Christmas, red always wins.”
Makeup choices at parties say a lot about each woman’s personal moment. For some, the arrival of the new year calls for lightness; for others, it’s the perfect time to focus on visual impact.
Yumi explains that those who seek naturalness tend to favor fluid textures and soft luminosity. “Very fluid foundations allow you to create a light and natural camouflage.” In this style, the skin breathes, the blush gives dynamism and the eyes remain discreet.
On the other hand, the glamorous aesthetic remains strong among those who want to be present at parties. The makeup artist emphasizes that the creation of gradient lips (lip combo technique) is a frequent choice among her clients. “The gradient lip combo leaves the mouth powerful and the false eyelashes make the look more sensual.” In this set, the mouth and eyes balance intensity and elegance.
The beauty routine doesn’t end when the party is over. Yumi warns that the way makeup is removed directly affects the health and appearance of the skin in the days following. “A two-phase makeup remover or cleansing balm helps dissolve and remove everything more easily.”
And, to prolong the beautiful effect throughout the day, and even at night, she uses an element that she considers essential: “the setting mist at the end of makeup, and reapplied throughout the day, renews the skin and maintains the beautiful finish for longer,” she explains.
