The 34-year-old driver did not survive after being trapped in the wreck; traffic remains blocked on site
A serious accident was recorded this Saturday morning (6) at kilometer 33 of the RS-118, in Viamão, and resulted in the death of a 34-year-old driver. The accident involved a Renault Kwid and a trailer, completely stopping traffic in one direction of the highway.

According to the truck driver, who spoke to Rádio Gaúcha, he was heading towards Viamão-Gravataí when the car, which was coming in the opposite direction, tried to overtake him and ended up colliding head-on with the truck.
Emergency services were called to evacuate the victim, trapped in the rubble. The driver was extracted alive from the vehicle and transported to Cristo Redentor Hospital, Porto Alegre, but was arrested while still inside the ambulance and died instantly. The truck driver was not injured.
Due to the impact, the flow remains completely blocked towards Viamão. Vehicles must travel in the opposite direction to make the detour. Those traveling in the Viamão-Alvorada direction must access an alternative return until the route is freed.
