Corinthians and Vasco left everything open in the Copa do Brasil grand final. On Wednesday evening (17), the teams were held to a goalless draw in the first match of the decider, played at the Neo Química Arena. Both teams managed to manage the ball well, but failed to create chances.
Accordingly, whoever wins in the second leg will take home the cup. The match will take place early in the evening next Sunday (21), at 6:30 p.m., at the Maracanã. In the event of a new draw, the title will be decided on penalties.
Few opportunities and Vasco better
The match started in a balanced manner, with a lot of study on both sides. After arrivals which did not pose much danger to the opposing goal, Vasco managed to create more and put pressure on. Rayan even scored the first goal, but the assistant took it offside. Then Coutinho shot from the edge of the box and sent it in. Puma Rodríguez appeared in the box, got up after a cross and headed towards the backline.
However, in the first chance they had, Corinthians scored against Memphis. However, the goal was disallowed as the Dutchman was offside after a deflection from the Black and White attack in the middle of the area. Timão even managed to grow in the match, but failed to overcome the opponent’s marking and create more chances.
Dangerous moves and no purpose
The second half started more warmly. The teams tried to attack, but failed to complete the final touch. Once again, Vasco manages to stand out a little more and gets the first big opportunity. After a corner, Cauan Barros rose higher in the box and headed the ball against the post. The Corinthians then managed to appear, in kind. After a corner, Gustavo Henrique headed wide.
Corinthians’ big opportunity came in the latter part of the match. Matheus Bidu invades the area from the left and crosses for Yuri Alberto, who kicks the ball for a miracle from Léo Jardim. However, the final minutes of the match were not very exciting. Both teams continued to struggle to reach the offensive pitch with danger, resulting in a goalless draw at the Neo Química Arena.
