Qualifying for the Copa do Brasil final not only secured Corinthians a domestic title after eight years, but it was also important for the club’s coffers. The Parque São Jorge team has guaranteed at least R$33 million more, the amount paid to the finalist, to make the decision and will finish the competition with at least R$53.5 million in prize money.
Corinthians’ financial planning for 2025 listed the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals as the goal. Together with Libertadores, the board aimed to win at least 38.2 million reais in prize money in knockout tournaments.
Corinthians planned to reach at least the round of 16 of the Libertadores and thus guarantee $5.3 million (27.6 million reais) in prize money. With the drop in the third phase, it only took 1.1 million US dollars (6.3 million reais).
However, Corinthians doubled their goal by reaching the Copa do Brasil final. Before eliminating Cruzeiro, the team had already collected 20.6 million reais from the national competition alone. If they finish in second place, the club will accumulate BRL 65.4 million in prize money, which will be added to the Libertadores prize. But, if it is champion, the São Paulo team earns an additional R$77.1 million and obtains a total of R$109.1 million.
Another way to compensate for his elimination at the Libertadores would be to reach the final of the Copa Sudamericana, which would bring at least 5 million US dollars (around 25.5 million reais) to the Corinthians. However, the team fell in the group stage and pocketed R$5.6 million.
Even if this reward represents a respite for the club’s coffers, Corinthians is far from having overcome its problems. Corinthians is going through a serious financial crisis, with a total debt of 2.7 billion reais. The amount collected during the round of 16 in the event of the Copa do Brasil title would only represent 4.3% of the debt.
Corinthians face Vasco in the Copa do Brasil final, who eliminated Fluminense, also on penalties. As previously defined by the CBF, the first match of the final will take place on Wednesday, at 9:30 p.m., at the Neo Química Arena. The second match will take place on Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., at the Maracanã.
