Corinthians and Vasco’s rankings for the Copa do Brasil final have left the Sao Paulo out of the Libertadores 2025 preliminary stage. The São Paulo team finished the Brasileirão in eighth place and needed the knockout tournament title to go to Fluminense or Cruzeiro – or for both teams to go to the final together.
With Flamengo champion of the Libertadores, the Brazilian Championship ended with the formation of a G7. Palmeiras, Cruzeiro, Mirassol and Fluminense qualified directly for the group stage of the continental championship, via Brasileirão. Botafogo and Bahia had places in the preliminary phase.
As Fluminense and Cruzeiro are in the classification zone of the points competition, if they advanced to the Libertadores via the Copa do Brasil, they would transform the G7 into a G8. That’s why they had fans from São Paulo.
From now on, the São Paulo team will have to content themselves with competing in the Copa Sudamericana. In 2025, he participated for the second consecutive year in the Libertadores, after being excluded from the 2022 and 2023 editions.
