She was detained by police officers from the Police Center for Child and Adolescent Victims (DCAV), with the support of the Special Police Center for Assistance to the Elderly (DEAPTI), while she was working at another day care centre, in Maire, the northern region of Rio.

The issue only came to light in May of this year, when the mother of a 4-year-old boy requested access to nursery photos after noticing sudden changes in her son’s behavior. The child began to refuse food, lost weight, and showed fear when speaking with the coordinator.
The recordings revealed scenes of severe abuse. Daniele forced food into the child’s mouth, causing him to vomit, and then returned the food to his mouth, creating a choking hazard. The vomit-stained blouse was also rubbed on the victim’s face.
As the investigation progressed, other responsible parties contacted police to report similar attacks. So far, four children have been identified as direct victims, but the police station has received reports that may increase the number.
According to police, in addition to Daniele, five other employees of the day care center were charged with torture by omission, including the unit director, for knowing about the attacks and failing to report them.
