According to the extract, the resources can be used to finance the working capital and strategic investments of the public enterprise. The document provides, among the allocations, the payment of the structuring commission for the credit transaction, in addition to other expenses linked to the restructuring plan.
The financing will have a payment term of 15 years, with an interest rate close to Sélic. The operation received approval from the National Treasury just over a week ago, after an unsuccessful attempt at approval in early December.
With accumulated losses exceeding 6 billion reais between January and September 2025 and recurring deficits since 2022, which already exceed 10 billion reais, Correios is seeking to rebalance its accounts.
The restructuring plan provides, in addition to the loan, a program of voluntary layoffs with the potential dismissal of around 15,000 employees between 2026 and 2027, the closure of branches and the sale of properties, in the hope of raising around 1.5 billion reais.
