Correios must raise an additional 8 billion reais for 2026, informed the president of the public company, Emmanoel Rondon, during a press conference this Monday (29/12).
The company managed to approve a loan of 12 billion reais, from private and public banks, but the company’s need was 20 billion reais. According to Rondon, the offer of this amount of credit had very high rates; The public company therefore agreed on a lower value, with prices “more adapted to the needs of the company”.

Restructuring plan
This Monday, Correios presented the company’s restructuring plan, which aims to alleviate up to 4.2 billion reais per year from the public company’s expenses.
To this end, the company presented a voluntary layoffs plan (PDV), which it said could affect up to 15,000 employees, with 10,000 layoffs in 2026 and another 5,000 in 2027. Correios estimates that the plan could save up to 2.1 billion reais per year, with full impact starting in 2028.
In addition to the PDV, Correios intends to sell properties without operational use, which could generate around 1.5 billion reais in extraordinary revenue for the state-owned company.
Employee strike
As part of the public company’s restructuring project, Correios workers have been on strike since December 16. The movement strengthened on Tuesday evening (12/23), when the majority of unions rejected the draft collective agreement for 2025/2026.
A negotiation brokered by the Higher Labor Court (TST) was held on Friday (26/12), but ended without an agreement. This Monday, at 2 p.m., a new negotiation attempt will take place. The court’s decision on the disputes between the company and workers is expected to be delivered this Tuesday (12/30).
