Racing coach Gustavo Costas, scarred by the defeat in the final of the 2025 Clausura tournament against Estudiantes, chose a strict and direct conclusion in the press conference, expressing his disappointment at not being able to win the title.
After the defeat on penalties at the Madre de Ciudades Stadium, the coach avoided the traditional conference, did not take questions and left a short but powerful message full of frustration and self-criticism.
“It hurts me a lot to lose this title so narrowly”said the coach, visibly affected by a result that also denied the academy qualification for the Copa Libertadores, a goal that must now be replaced by the Copa Sudamericana.
In this context, Costas appreciated his team’s performance and emphasized that Racing is up to the task: “Many thanks to this group who gave it their all like in every game. I even think we deserved to win, but football is like that and we didn’t know how to keep it going.”
Before the final, the coach also clarified one of the main questions, the physical aspect, and emphasized that it was not the deciding factor: “They didn’t give us the lead, we played a good game. We didn’t have that many chances, but they didn’t create much for us either.”.
With this in mind, Costas highlighted the team’s commitment throughout the season: “They played torn, with operations… they gave it their all, they left it all and I think we deserved a little bit more as a group.”
Despite the emotional shock, Costas couldn’t help but recognize his rival: “Congratulations Estudiantes on their performance. They are an outstanding team. They took a lot of hits and still got up.”
Before resigning, the coach left a message for fans: “I thank all the people at Racing for what they have encouraged. From the bottom of our hearts we must move forward.”
The last sentence summed up his mood and his own standards: “I said I came to win, not to compete… I’m in debt.”
