He Ministry of Health He doesn’t get out of one mess when he finds himself in another. Last week, thousands of doctors around the world Spain followed a strike to protest against the Framework Statute which regulates their working conditions and which was approved by the … department that directs Mónica García (More Madrid)and this in Andalusia forced the suspension of 156,000 consultations and 3,234 operations. And if a good number of doctors with their consolidated positions are unhappy, it is not because the young people who aspire to develop this same profession are delighted with the Government they will preside over. Pedro Sanchez.
The reason for the anxiety of students who have completed their academic cycle and aspire to become one Interim resident doctors (MIR) is that the ministry has not yet published the list of those admitted to the examination for the allocation of the 9,276 places throughout Spain, set for January 24, 2026.
Internet forums and student messaging services are on fire: concern is growing because the deadline set for releasing the list of future doctors who will be able to take the test has expired more than a month ago.
Uncertainty
The Ministry published last August in the Official State Gazette (BOE) the decree which regulates the annual offer of places and the call for selective access tests during the year 2026 towards specialized health training places. And it was at the end of October that information on those admitted to the exam was to be published. But this information is not yet known.
For the 2026 call, Health has offered 12,366 places for Specialized Training in Health, of which 9,276 correspond to Medicine, as detailed in the aforementioned ministerial decree, which adds that those interested in taking the test will be able to register between September 1 and 12 – a technical imbalance in the Health registration system has forced the deadline to be extended until the 18th of this month.
Andalusia will have the same number of MIRs as Catalonia in 2026; Madrid is ahead with 2004
He Ministry is aware of the unrest that has spread among students and assured last week that the list of those admitted would be known soon, but without giving further details. In fact, the date of January 24 for the selective call remains: at least, Health has not said the opposite.
Andalusia is the second autonomous community who will receive more MIRs during the 2026 call: 1,992 will come, the same number as Catalonia and only behind Madridwhich will host the 2004 edition, as detailed in the order published in BOÉ this summer.
Logistical support from the Junta de Andalucía
Among the temporary resident doctors who will complete their training in the autonomous community, 440 will specialize in Family medicine and community, 80 in pediatrics, 69 in Medicine Resident, 62 in anesthesia and Awakening50 in Obstetrics and gynecology, and 46 in Radiodiagnosis -those mentioned are the specialties with the most places available-.
Although the summons for the examination at the end of January next year ultimately falls to the Central Executive, the Junta of Andalusia It has secondary, supportive powers: the fundamental, the organization of the tests scheduled in the region at the same time as in the rest of Spain.
To date, the Regional Administration has not received any instructions from the Ministry concerning the activation of the testing system: the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) continues to manage the initial date, January 24, despite the uncertainty that persists over who is admitted to the appointment.
