When Zé Neto and Cristiano left the stage, on a mental health break, it was not a vacation or a career repositioning. According to Cristiano, the aim was to prevent the situation from getting even more out of control.

In an interview with André Piunti’s YouTube channel, the compatriot said that after the death of Marília Mendonça, in November 2021, Zé Neto began to show clear signs of physical and emotional exhaustion. The scenario worsened after the pandemic, with alcohol abuse, excessive use of e-cigarettes and diagnoses of depression and panic syndrome.
“In the post-pandemic period, after Marília’s accident, Zé started to feel bad. The biggest problem at first was the e-cigarette, which started to affect what he loved most, his voice. He didn’t even have a voice to speak. He arrived to do shows, had no voice to sing and anesthetized himself with alcohol. “Either you stop drinking or both, it’s over.” »
Given the situation, Cristiano called a decisive meeting to discuss the future of the partnership. The conclusion was clear: this path was no longer an option. The solution found was a career break so that Zé Neto could undergo treatment.
“I said I couldn’t continue like this. I didn’t want to be responsible for his death.”
The duo was absent from the stage and studios for three months, between October and December 2024. During this period, Cristiano and Zé Neto spent two months without even meeting, which increased the uncertainty about a possible return.
“At first, people had no hope that Zé would recover and that we would return to active duty as before. We are back, but with half the foot on the accelerator. We no longer need this madness of the beginning, this greed.”
