While Donald Trump insists on positioning itself as a mediator to end this War between Russia and Ukraine, Cristina Kirchner re-entered the geopolitical debate with a view that reinvigorates the controversy: he defended the historical reading of Vladimir Putiny claimed that the Russian President “He never wanted to invade Europe”but acted in response to NATO’s advance.
The former president’s words – who is serving house arrest for conviction in the Roads case – appear in the prologue of Ostracized and rebelliousthe book of Roberto Caballero And Cynthia Ottaviano Published at the end of November.
His interpretation of the conflict: a “defensive” attack from the Russian perspective
In the text, Cristina states that for Moscow the offensive on Ukrainian territory should be understood in the context of a long tradition of conflicts with Western Europe. “Russia is accused by the countries of the European Union of wanting to take over all of Europe. It is common to read (although it is almost a military oxymoron) that “Putin wants to reach Lisbon‘, without taking into account the defensive nature of the Russian attack (from its perspective and history) in the face of non-compliance with the Minsk Treaties… and on NATO’s advance on the Russian border“, wrote.
According to the former president, the aggressions suffered by Russia in the past represented a logic of reaction, since “it has been attacked and invaded by European countries twice in its long history,” she noted, later explaining: “Russia never wanted to invade Europe, but historically it was the other way around“.
Political clarification: “Nothing could be further from reality”
Although her thinking appears to be consistent with the Kremlin’s narrative, Cristina denied any personal support for the invasion that began in 2022.There will be no shortage of mediocre people who, reading these lines, will think that I agree with the war or with the defense of Russia’s position. Nothing could be further from reality” he warned.
He also recalled that Argentina had rejected the annexation of Crimea during his presidency: “On our express instructions, Argentina voted against the annexation of the Crimean peninsula… We did this in defense of the principle of territorial integrity that underpins our claim to the Malvinas.”
A chapter criticizing Mileis Chancellor
In keeping with her usual rhetoric, Cristina took the opportunity to send a message to the Chancellor Pablo Quironeither. He recovered a recent episode on social media in which he was mistaken for a Chilean official. From there, the former vice president ironically commented on her statements about her ancestry: “A few days ago, Milei’s Chancellor Pablo Quirno… He wanted to appear patriotic and reminded himself that he is Argentinian and that it has a lineage up to and including “pre-independence… Minutes of the Council of May 1810.”
Cristina added sarcastically: “This is just as true as, according to the said minutes, the ancestor of the Chancellor of Milei… voted for the continuity of Viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros!” And he concluded: “Anyway… genetics is genetics.”
The text is part of the prologue entitled “The Future Has History”, published by Aleph Libros.
