Returning to Brazilian football after more than a year, coach Tite wants to return to work with an old acquaintance: midfielder Gerson, who was part of his team at Flamengo, in 2023. To this end, Cruzeiro has started negotiations to recruit the 28-year-old midfielder, who has been playing for Zenit, Russia, since July this year.
Negotiations are still undergoing significant adjustments and include the possibility of defender Jonathan Jesus, 21, joining Russian football. The Russians are open to the departure of Gerson, but are asking for 15 million euros, in addition to the arrival of the young defender. Information comes from GE website.
Gerson was sold by Flamengo for 25 million euros and finished this second stint at the Rio club with 12 nets and 24 assists in 144 matches, in addition to the Campeonato Carioca (2024 and 2025), Copa do Brasil (2024) and Supercopa do Brasil (2025) titles.
In Russia, the midfielder has only twelve appearances, with only one goal scored. He even lost his place in the Brazilian team.
The contract with Zenit runs until 2030. The transfer window opens in January.
