Understand, in the words of Polly Samson, why she unleashed the dogs on the former Pink Floyd member and her husband’s dislike
Writer Polly Samson, wife of David Gilmour, sparked a big reaction in February 2023 when she harshly criticized Roger Waters on social media. At the time, she unleashed the dogs on the former member of Pink Floyd and condemned his political positions.
The words Polly used were direct, showing the extent of her displeasure with Waters. The post on X (old Twitter) went viral and racked up over 27,000 likes.
See that she did not spare adjectives at the time:
“Unfortunately, Roger Waters, you are anti-Semitic to the core. Also a Putin apologist and liar, thief, hypocrite, tax evader, lip sync actor, misogynist, sick with envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense.”
Recently, in an interview with The Telegraph (via Igor Miranda’s website), the subject of the message came up again. During the conversation, Samson was particularly specific about his motivation for raising his voice regarding Roger Waters.
Interestingly, she said she didn’t want to be confused with Waters’ wife. The writer explained that she feared that people, because they supposedly did not distinguish between group members, Pink Floydthey might think she was married to the bassist/singer – not Gilmour.
In a statement highlighted by Far Out Magazine, she said:
“The reason I did this is because Pink Floyd is a very anonymous group in the personal sense. Everywhere I went, there was a chance that people would think I was married to the congressman who said that sort of thing. And it didn’t give me a good feeling. If they knew I was married to someone from Pink Floyd, half the time they would look at me strangely, which was really uncomfortable. I just wanted to clarify that these were not my opinions nor those of the person I was married to.”
