MADRID, December 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The death toll from the recent floods recorded in Indonesia, which mainly affect the north of the island of Sumatra, stands at 961, as confirmed on Monday by the country’s authorities, who also indicated that there were also some 5,000 injured and 293 missing.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) indicated in its latest report that 3.3 million people were affected by the passage of cyclone “Senyar”, which caused torrential rains, landslides and floods.
Likewise, he clarified that there are 52 districts affected by the emergency and estimated that around 157,000 houses suffered damage in the disaster, which also caused damage to 1,300 public facilities, including 199 health centers, 701 schools and 405 bridges, affecting search and rescue efforts.
Authorities have warned that the damage caused by these rains is serious and is due to the quantity of water recorded over a prolonged period. However, the country is beginning its rainy season, which has raised alarms in other parts of the country that are not as affected at the moment.
